Terminology Management

Definitions are important enough in ordinary life but in information management they are vital. Data - the raw material of information management - can only be used if it is understood, and it can only be understood if it has adequate definitions. This webinar describes what you need to do to improve the quality of definitions and how governance of definitions and the metadata that is required to manage definitions should be organized. As the rate of change accelerates, a proven, pragmatic solution becomes more urgent with every passing day.

Agenda:

Why defintions by Malcolm Chisholm(15 min). Everyone agrees that definitions, that meaning, is an essential component of information management and likes to have a better way and practical way to manage them.

Demonstration of RuleXpress by Rik Gerrits (35 min). Illustration of essential capabilities with respect to defining terms, synonyms, homonyms and associated metadata, including two brief case studies.

Q & A (10 min).

Technical discussion will be strictly reserved for the final 20 minutes. Bring your managers and business colleagues for the non-technical portion!

Hot-Button Discussion Items:
  • How can I ensure consistency of terms across departments and projects while managing synonyms, acronyms and more?
  • How can I communicate vocabulary/rules to impacted stakeholders?
  • How can I make sure we get our business rules right and retain that knowledge in explicit form?
  • How can I manage terms across products and map them to implementation details?
